About Us
Regional Leaders in Foot Health
The Gulf Diabetic Foot Working Group (GDFWG) is a non-profit, independent group of clinicians and researchers from the GCC (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman), committed to improving diabetic foot care across the region.
Founded in 2012 and officially launched in 2013, GDFWG serves as a regional hub for scientific collaboration, clinical education, and community engagement. Through conferences, training courses, and regional partnerships, the group advances evidence-based strategies to prevent and manage diabetic foot complications.
President's Message
Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Visitors
It is my great honor to welcome you to the official website of the Gulf Diabetic Foot Working Group (GDFWG).
As we face a rising tide of diabetes in the Gulf region, diabetic foot disease has emerged as one of the most pressing public health challenges. According to the International Diabetes Federation, our region holds one of the highest prevalence rates of diabetes worldwide—placing a heavy burden on healthcare systems and affecting the quality of life for millions. Complications from diabetic foot ulcers not only lead to significant physical, emotional, and financial hardship, but often result in avoidable hospitalizations and amputations.
Our aim is to serve as the primary scientific and practical resource for healthcare providers in the Gulf with an interest in diabetic foot prevention and management. Through training, conferences, research, and expert collaboration, we empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to prevent complications and save limbs—and lives.
We also recognize the urgent need for Gulf-specific guidelines—ones that reflect our region’s unique healthcare landscape, cultural context, and patient needs. Our ongoing efforts in research and collaboration are focused on developing and disseminating these tailored solutions.
This website is more than a digital presence—it is a hub for education, connection, and shared progress. Whether you are a healthcare professional, a policymaker, a researcher, or someone impacted by diabetic foot disease, we welcome your engagement and invite you to join our mission.
"Together, we can take confident steps toward a future free of preventable diabetic foot complications."
